Horndean Bus Routes: Services to Waterlooville & Portsmouth

First Bus route 8 is the main service through Horndean, linking Clanfield and Waterlooville with Cosham and Portsmouth. Here is what the current timetables say.

First Bus route 8 runs from Clanfield through Horndean, Cowplain and Waterlooville to Cosham and The Hard Interchange in Portsmouth, with buses about every 15 minutes in the daytime on its September 2026 timetable. National Rail's station posters (data correct at November 2025) also list route 37 (Havant to Petersfield, Monday to Saturday daytime) serving Horndean.

What bus services run through Horndean?

First Bus route 8 links Clanfield and Horndean with Cowplain, Waterlooville, Cosham and the centre of Portsmouth. First's timetable lists it as "The Hard - Clanfield", and its stops include Clanfield Drift Road Shops, Clanfield South Road, Horndean Precinct, Cowplain Shops, Waterlooville Precinct, The Hampshire Rose, QA Hospital main entrance, Cosham Health Centre, Hilsea Crescent, Portsmouth International Port, City Centre South and The Hard Interchange. The timetables on First Bus's Portsmouth, Fareham and Gosport timetable page are shown as valid from 13 to 19 September 2026 "until further notice", depending on the day of the week.

There is also a route 37 between Havant and Petersfield. The National Rail onward travel posters for Havant and Petersfield stations, with data correct at November 2025, list route 37 as serving Horndean, Clanfield, Cowplain, Waterlooville and Crookhorn, with Havant at one end and Petersfield at the other. The Havant poster says it runs a daytime service on Mondays to Saturdays only, with no evenings or Sundays. Those posters are dated November 2025, so check the current stops and times with Stagecoach or Traveline before you rely on it.

How often does the 8 run from Horndean?

From the Horndean Precinct stop, First's Monday to Thursday timetable shows buses towards Clanfield from 05:11 and buses towards Portsmouth from 04:25. Through the daytime the times printed are about every 15 minutes in both directions, and they thin out in the evening. On Fridays and Saturdays the same pattern applies, with a later finish. The last bus towards Clanfield calls at Horndean Precinct at 23:54 on Sundays, 00:24 on Monday to Thursday and 01:54 on Fridays and Saturdays, and the last bus towards Portsmouth calls at 23:08 on Sundays and Monday to Thursday, and at 01:08 on Fridays and Saturdays. Those after-midnight times fall in the early hours of the following day.

Sundays are quieter. First's Sunday timetable has the first bus towards Clanfield at Horndean Precinct at 07:06 and the first towards Portsmouth at 06:10. On Saturdays the first buses are 05:16 towards Clanfield and 04:28 towards Portsmouth. All of these are the times printed on First's current timetable PDFs on 5 October 2026. Timetables change, and First's page also lists forthcoming timetable changes dated 11 October, 18 October and 2 November 2026 for some routes, so look at the live page before planning a first or last bus.

Which buses serve Rowlands Castle?

The National Rail onward travel poster for Rowlands Castle station shows route 27 from the station to Havant bus station, via Denvilles, Durrants (Staunton Arms), Emsworth, HSDC Havant College, Leigh Park, New Brighton and Warblington station. It is described there as a limited daytime service on Mondays to Fridays only, with no evenings, Saturdays or Sundays. That poster carries November 2025 data, and the poster itself says to check Traveline for times and days.

What about Catherington, Lovedean and Blendworth?

For buses in Catherington, Lovedean or Blendworth, search your nearest stop on Traveline, whose number is printed on the National Rail posters as 0871 200 22 33, or check the stop-side timetable displays.

What are the fares, and is there a price cap?

First Bus publishes fares through a ticket price search on its ticket prices page, where you choose a ticket type and zone. The ticket types listed include FirstDay, FirstWeek, FirstMonth and Solent Go tickets. Check the page or the First Bus app for current fares before you travel.

Can I use a bus pass in Horndean?

Yes, on First's services if you hold an eligible pass. First's concessions page says that with an older person's pass you can ride free off-peak between 9.30am and 11pm on weekdays and all weekend. GOV.UK explains that in England you can get a bus pass for free travel when you reach State Pension age, and you apply through your local council.
