That is our own service, so the rest of this guide is written to be useful whoever you hire.
Do you need one at all?
Maybe not. If recommendations keep you as busy as you want to be, a website will not change much, and we would sooner say so.
It starts to matter when you want enquiries from people who have never heard of you, or when you are paying for leads and would like to stop. A site that shows up for your services in your own villages keeps working while you are on a job. There is a fuller answer in do I need a website?
Ask about ownership before anything else
Some trade owners find out too late that the site they thought they had bought was rented on a monthly contract, and it went when they stopped paying. So the first question for any web designer is: do I own the website and the domain, or am I renting them?
Then ask the rest. What happens to the site if I stop paying? Is there a contract or a minimum term? How many pages do I get, and are they written for my services and my area? Is SEO included, and for how long? Who makes changes once it is live?
What the site has to do across Horndean's villages
Cover each place by name. Horndean is not one search. A customer in Clanfield types Clanfield, and one in Rowlands Castle types Rowlands Castle. The same goes for Catherington, Lovedean, Blendworth and Cowplain down the A3. A page for each village, and for each service in each village, is how a small firm shows up across its whole patch and not only at its own postcode. That is where 200+ pages come from.
Cover each job by name. "Boiler repair", "bathroom fitting" and "emergency call-outs" are different searches made by different people. One services page cannot answer all of them.
Put the phone number and a working form on every page. Most visitors are on a mobile. They should be able to ring you or send an enquiry without hunting.
Say only what is true. Your real services, your real area and your own photos if you have them. Do not let anyone add qualifications, prices or review counts that are not yours. The risk sits with you, not with the designer.
Answer plainly. Search engines and AI assistants such as ChatGPT lift short, direct answers from pages. A site that states who you are, what you do and where you do it is easier for them to pass on. We cover that in how to get your Horndean business recommended by ChatGPT.
What you get for £500
One payment of £500. For that you get a site you own outright, no contract and nothing recurring, 200+ pages built around your services and the villages and towns you cover, and 12 months of SEO work on the site after it goes live. You check a preview first.
More for your trade
We have written separate guides for electricians, plumbers and roofers. Builders can see who else is listed locally on our builders page.
Get more than one quote
Horndean.co does not have a ranked list of web designers. Our sister site does: web designers ranked on their Google reviews on Waterlooville.co. It is the ranking for neighbouring Waterlooville, not for Horndean, although its PO7 and PO8 search area takes in some firms in Horndean and Clanfield. Before you ring round, read how websites are priced so the quotes can be compared.
About this guide
Horndean.co is published by Dean Keating, whose business also builds the websites described here. This guide recommends our own service, so treat it as you would any business describing itself, and compare it with other designers. A free listing on Horndean.co is separate and does not depend on buying anything.
