How Much Does a Website Cost in Horndean? One-Off, Monthly or Do-It-Yourself

There is no going rate for a website, in Horndean or anywhere else. What you pay depends on which of three ways you are charged. Here is how to work out the real cost of each, and one fixed price we can state because it is our own.

A website for a Horndean business is paid for in one of three ways: a one-off build fee, a monthly rental, or a do-it-yourself builder subscription. Prices vary by designer, so get written quotes and ask whether you will own the site. One fixed price is the £500 one-off build from Dean Keating, the Horndean-based publisher of Horndean.co, which you own outright with no monthly fee.

The honest answer

We cannot give you a single price for a website, and we are not going to make up figures for other people's businesses. The useful thing to understand is how you will be charged, because that decides what you have paid after three years.

The one figure we can state is our own. Dean Keating, who publishes Horndean.co and is based here in Horndean, builds websites for £500 one-off. You own the site outright, there is no contract or monthly fee, and it comes with 200+ pages and 12 months of SEO. See the £500 website build.

Start with what the site has to do

Size drives the price more than anything else. A handful of pages costs less to make than a site with a page for each service and each place you cover. For a business working across Horndean, Clanfield, Catherington, Lovedean, Blendworth and Rowlands Castle, that second kind of site is the one that appears when people search by village.

After size come the writing, the photography, any booking or payment features, and whether SEO work after launch is included or charged on top. Two quotes can only be compared if they cover the same things, so ask each designer to list what is in theirs.

Paying once

You pay a build fee and the site is yours. From then on you pay only the running costs, such as the domain name and hosting, plus any changes you ask for.

What to check: who hosts it, what that costs, and what changes cost after launch.

Paying monthly

Little or nothing up front, then a fee every month. It is easy to start, and the fee often covers hosting and small changes.

What to check: who owns the site. With many rental deals it belongs to the provider, so the site goes if you stop paying. Multiply the monthly fee by 36 before you set it against a one-off price, and ask whether there is a minimum term.

Building it yourself

You subscribe to a website builder and make the site yourself. It is the cheapest way to get something online, and it suits a business that needs one simple page.

What to check: your own time. The result depends on your skill, and a builder site with a few pages will rarely appear for searches across several services and villages.

Five questions for every designer

Do I own the website and the domain name? Is there a contract or a minimum term? What do I pay each month or year once it is live? What do changes cost? Is SEO included, and for how long?

Where to get quotes

Horndean.co has no ranked list of web designers of its own. Waterlooville.co, our sister site, ranks web designers on their Google reviews. That list is for neighbouring Waterlooville, though it searches the PO7 and PO8 postcodes and so includes some firms in Horndean and Clanfield. Get two or three written quotes and put them beside a fixed price so you have something to measure against.

If you run a trade, our guide to websites for tradesmen in Horndean covers what the site itself needs. If you are not sure a website is worth it yet, read do I need a website? first.

Frequently asked questions

What does a website cost for a Horndean business?
It depends on the designer and on how you are charged: a one-off build fee, a monthly rental or a do-it-yourself builder. Get a written quote and ask whether you will own the site. One fixed price is £500 one-off from Dean Keating, the Horndean-based publisher of Horndean.co.
What is the difference between buying a website and renting one?
With a one-off build you pay once and the site is yours. With a monthly rental the site often belongs to the provider and disappears if you stop paying. Ask who owns it before you agree.
What will I pay after the site goes live?
Typically the domain name and hosting, plus any changes you ask for. Ask each designer to put these in writing.
Is the £500 website a monthly plan?
No. It is a single payment with no contract and no monthly fee. You own the site outright, and it includes 200+ pages built around your services and areas and 12 months of SEO.
Where can I compare web designers near Horndean?
Horndean.co has no ranked list of its own. Waterlooville.co ranks web designers in neighbouring Waterlooville on their Google reviews, and its PO7 and PO8 search area includes some firms in Horndean and Clanfield.
Is a website builder good enough for a small local business?
It suits a simple one-page presence if you have the time. It is less likely to appear for searches across several services and villages.
Why are two website quotes so far apart?
Usually because they cover different things: the number of pages, who writes the content, photography, booking or payment features, and whether SEO after launch is included.
